Dark Souls is an Action-RPG that has filled the hole while I wait for the much anticipated Diablo 3 game to be released. While Dark Souls is a good game, it’s extremely hard, and is definitely not for the casual gamer.

The gameplay is top notch with few bugs and some real cool mechanics for fighting. You have two main melee attacks plus the option to whip out a bow and arrow, throw knives, bombs, or even cast some spells. The story is well written and definitely will keep you engaged throughout the claimed 50-60 hours of gameplay and you’ll be lucky if you can beat it in that amount of time if you’re not a regular to console games.

My biggest gripe (and it’s not even that big of one) with the game is the difficulty and the punishment that you take for death. Sure death should be a large punishment, but with how often it comes, reaching a new bonfire is the greatest

experience of my life sometimes! This game will make you want to throw your remote through the TV, it will make you want to rip your hair out, it will own you day and night and you will die too many times to count, sometimes there’s no way to avoid death!

Overall I’d give the game a 9 out of 10. It’s well written story, good graphics, amazing gameplay and even the difficulty make it a great game. I’d much rather have a game that’s on the more difficult side than one that offers 10 hours of gameplay and then you’re over and down in less than a week. Dark Souls will be a great game for me for months to come and that’s great news because as we know Diablo 3 will not be released until sometime in “early 2012″.
